[CANCELLED] Well-being & Stress Management with the Brain Booth

[CANCELLED] Well-being & Stress Management with the Brain Booth

Nowadays, college students face a lot of different challenges in a very fast-paced society. For example, they have to navigate between two major factors affecting their performance and well-being, namely, coping with stress and dealing with distractions to sustain productive cognitive activities. These might manifest as lack of concentration, also known as mind wandering. Scholarly literature supports mindful practices, such as intentional brain breaks, emotional self-regulation, and singular focus, to help students improve study skills and knowledge retention. These practices are offered through the Brain Both Initiative. The Library Brain Booth (BB) is an informal, experiential space to learn about the mind body connection and optimize learning.

Participants will gain experience in:

  • Recognizing and addressing the need for mindfulness and reflection in our society
  • Mitigating stress and focusing on self-care

The Library Brain Booth seeks to introduce the Humboldt State community to international scientific research on the effects of mindfulness, attention, and contemplation through hands-on tools and activities in an informal, experiential setting. Students are especially encouraged to explore the positive impacts that taking an intentional brain break can have on their academic success.

This SkillShop is offered in the Brain Booth area, 2nd floor, on Thursdays at 11-11:50am and 1-1:50pm.

Participants will have an opportunity to try at lease several activities.
